A Musical Ministry (October Update)

As the leaves start to fall in Zagreb, everyone has settled back in to their post-summer-holiday routines. And, as much as we can with the pandemic still around, we are too.

This time of year, we'd usually have a weekly event for the kids connected with the church here, but the church has decided to forego those events this year because of COVID. Instead, we've focused on serving in other ways.

I've continued to preach about once a month with my last two sermons being on Exodus 34 and Jonah 4. It's fun to preach here at Kušlanova. I really like to focus in on the Old Testament and places in the Bible that can get overlooked. I've also been leading worship every other week when I'm not preaching.

Savannah has started creating weekly family devotionals for the families in the congregation, which has been a big help. Since not everyone can come (because of capacity restrictions), it's great to have a weekly resource to help parents as they disciple their kids.

We also started having the teens over to our house once a week in late September, but complications in their school schedules because of COVID spikes made us have to cancel that for now.

However, we have been able to meet with the teens every Saturday for a new music ministry. A few members of the church at Kušlanova started a non-profit called Nešto Više ("Something More") with the idea of ministering to teenagers.

The idea of this music ministry is to get together and perform modern songs with deeper meanings. One brother is a talented musician who leads the group with a colleague. The teens who want to sing can sing, and the kids who want to play instruments do that. The deeper meanings of the songs open up conversations about deeper topics.

The goal is to perform as a group in the city square come winter holidays. We'll see if COVID restrictions allow for that, but for now, it's been a great bonding time for teens from all over the city.

Thanks so much for praying for us and contributing to us. We've only got a few months left in Croatia, but we want them to be the best they can be, so keep on praying!
