Preparation and Paperwork

After almost two weeks in Zagreb, we're starting to get our footing. The last traces of jet lag are wearing off, and we're developing a rhythm to our days.

The Grace of God and the Kuslanova Church have made our transition as smooth as we could have hoped. We've been fed; we've been housed; we've been included--we lack nothing among our brothers and sisters here. They all send their greetings.

Our first month looks like it's going to be a month of preparation and paperwork. There are a few highlights on our calendar, like our first children's day (coming up this Saturday), but our main focus has been applying for our visas and establishing relationships.

Hopefully, we'll be moving into our apartment within the next two weeks. When we first spoke with our landlady (while we were still searching for an apartment), she made a point to let us know she wasn't religious. But at the same time as doors closed on opportunities to other apartments, we went to speak with her in person for the first time, and she said that lately she had been getting this feeling that she should rent to us and had even turned a few other potential renters away. Maybe it was intuition, maybe it was a clever "ace" to close a deal, but to us, it seemed to be the Holy Spirit. She's kind and warm-hearted, and we're excited to see where our relationship goes.

Our two years loom large in front of us right now, and we're eager to get to work, but a lecture from a guest speaker at the Bible institute here gave us a good perspective. He had surveyed 900 evangelical Christians in Croatia, and had all kinds of data to share. One of the biggest take-aways was that the average time for conversion (from first contact with the Gospel to baptism) was 8 years. It's hard to hear that one of the ultimate aims of your ministry might not come to bear for years, but that fact reminded us that it wouldn't be the skill of our words that brought anyone to Christ; it will be the power of the Gospel in God's own time.

Ours will need to be a ministry of patience, real relationships, consistent testimony, and a life-penetrating love of the Gospel. When you can, please pray these things for us.

We are still a little behind on our fundraising; there's about $2,000 we still need. So if you were planning on supporting us, but never got around to it, it isn't too late! Just click on "Support Us" at the top and follow the steps. We really appreciate all the prayers, faith, and financial support from everyone back in U.S.

That's all for now! Let us know if you have any questions, and we'll make another post in about two weeks.
